An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…

2015 was an exciting year for me; in August I moved my practice to a new location and have been enjoying every minute of it. Thank you to those of you who have supported me through this transition, it is because of you that I am able to do the work that I love and continue to change lives.

While 2015 was a wonderful year, it also brought sadness to me and my family. On
December 30th, we lost my grandmother to pancreatic cancer. For those of you have have been effected by cancer, you know the pain and suffering this disease can evoke.

Fortunately for us, my grandma was 85 and had lived a full and wonderful life. She was not robbed of precious time on earth like some; that said, transitions are never easy and always sAn_ounce_of_Preventioneem to come too soon. The days after she passed bought about some honest
conversations and emotional moments with family members. One of the conversations I had was about the seriousness of cancer, how scary it is and how to void it.

As a naturopath, I consider myself in the ‘disease
prevention’ business. Not only is part of my job helping people restore their health, but also helping people avoid diseases like cancer. While I can’t make any guarantees, there are preventative measures that can be taken to keep you healthy. Keys to preventing disease include: keeping your immune system strong, detoxing regularly and avoiding cancer causing ingredients.

Here are 5 things you can do today to reduce your risk:

1 Avoid GMO’s (unless soy and corn are labeled ‘NON-GMO’ they are genetically modified)
2 Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (considered by the American Cancer Society as a known contributor to cancer)
3 Reduce refined carbohydrates (breads, rice, pastas) and sugar consumption (cakes, cookies)
4 Eat more fresh fruits and veggies
5 Avoid exposure to chemicals, metals and EMF’s as much as possible

Being healthy does require making dietary changes and yes, it does require taking supplements….but it is 100% worth it because, your health is 100% worth it!
